Review: 'SUPER FAST GIRLIE SHOW'
'Liverpool, Eric's, 5th March 2013'

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
Silence¦the contrast from the previous thirty minutes was alarming, yet entirely understandable; the shell-shocked audience were trying desperately to assimilate what they had just witnessed.

SUPER FAST GIRLIE SHOW had just concluded a ferocious set at the subterranean Eric's venue: an entirely appropriate location for their particular blend of cavernous bass onslaught.

Pasha Coxhill is stood stage right, bass slung low, to his left Phil Hartley, bass slung lower still, behind them sat side on drummer Allan Gonzo Jones, sticks raised; he brings them together and the sound of blitzkrieg ensues...Pasha crafts a more traditional bass sound; there is nothing traditional about the fetid noises Phil with his array of pedals and gates generates.

Super Fast Girlie Show ignore the rock and roll rules, in a similar vein to Motorhead everything is louder, everything is faster they have created a gloriously dark powerful sound that literally pummels you to the wall, wave upon wave of unrelenting power that energises as it washes over you...each song is a brief assault, punishing beats, shards of effect driven guitar mayhem as Pasha struggles to bellow over the top...song titles like 'Lube', 'Mind Control' and 'Freaks' tell you everything you need to know.

Super Fast Girlie Show are about impact, they are taking their primal bass sound into new realms, they make a truly terrifying howl but what makes them quite so effective is their ability to retain their musicality; there is little skill in cranking out sheets of feedback, to literally batter your audience into submission – but that is not Girlie Show style; they understand the innate connection between man and the beat, their sound reverberates through you, your whole self vibrates, and the connection is made.

Super Fast Girlie Show are exploring the possibilities of sub sonic sound, venturing to uncharted regions; a ponderously deep sound that arouses, that leaves you wide eyed, the crowd respond and are now slam dancing, fists punch the air, bodies collide in collective joy; then it ends.

A glorious noise!
