Our Rating:
O what it is to be young!

When sisters Asy and Chloe Saavedra released their first album as Smoosh in 2004 Asy was 12 and Chloe was 10. Nine years on, with youth still on their side they're onto their fourth album with a change of 'band' name and a determination to "take bigger risks".

Asy sings and plays keyboards, Chloe plays drums and adds some backing vocals.

Their surname is Swedish but they were born and bred in Seattle, Washington.

The strength of their music lies in the zest and vitality they bring to the songs. You can see this in the high energy video to My Hands, by far the catchiest, and best, song here.

Winner is like a poppier version of Nirvana's Polly and features guest saxophonist Ruben Gutierrez and it's safe to say that none of these three-minute tunes is pitching for anything particularly deep or meaningful.

The closing track - Across The Map - is the most ambitious song, a rousing piece built around jazzy piano rhythms and featuring producer Nathan Rosenberg on trumpet.

Funded by Kickstarter, the five synch-pop tunes are fun and unashamedly commercial. Being left alone at a party is about as angsty as it gets. There's nothing wrong with this for Morrissey wrote as a much younger man: "why pamper life's complexities?"
