Review: 'WILD BEASTS'
'REACH A BIT FURTHER'

-  Label: 'DOMINO'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '14th November 2011'

Our Rating:
 New single no 9
‘Reach a Bit Further’ is the latest single release from WILD BEASTS' third album, ‘Smother’, and it is a great track. An infectious slice of jangly guitar pop, with a drum beat that brings to mind some of Tears For Fears’ 1980s singles, this could really put Kendal’s finest export firmly on the map.

Married to the excellent instrumentation, vocalist Hayden Thorpe’s lyrics are playful and interesting: - “I was angry and brash as a bull. You were devastatingly beautiful.” His rhymes are top-notch on this single: - “I was crude, I was lewd, I was rude, I was not in the mood.”

The single is released via Domino as a digital download, but more interestingly as a limited edition 12” coloured vinyl single which collects the b sides from previous singles from ‘Smother’ which were only available in download format, as well as a previously unreleased track ‘Thankless Thing’. The single release is to accompany their current UK tour, which has already sold out Manchester, Cambridge and Brighton.

My advice: get the single and catch them on tour if you can, this is a band that’s going from strength to strength.
